When I worked in Johannesburg, the commute from Lenasia in the south was a daily grind, lasting 35 to 45 minutes each way. Despite enjoying my job and colleagues, the constant travel wore me down. Traffic jams and unexpected delays often stretched my commute to over two hours. Seeking respite from the urban hustle, my family and I cherished holidays in quieter places like KZN’s beaches.
One beachside home particularly captivated me with its tranquil setting and stunning ocean views. Its simplicity and connection to nature sparked a desire for a similar lifestyle—a peaceful retreat away from city chaos.
Johannesburg lacked natural attractions, leaving us with parks and malls as our main recreational spots. Longing for a change, I envisioned a life where work and leisure blended seamlessly in serene surroundings.
Determined to realize this dream, I committed to crafting a lifestyle centered on freedom, family, and nature. Although I never bought that specific house, its significance as the genesis of my vision remains with me to this day.
Today, I’ve achieved 85% of that dream lifestyle. I run my own business and have relocated to a serene coastal area abundant in nature. I work alongside my sons, who have become invaluable assets to the business.
While I may not be very wealthy, I am content with the simple pleasures life offers. Additional wealth wouldn’t drastically alter my lifestyle; I value time with family and occasional travel above material possessions.
In hindsight, that house ignited a transformative journey, guiding me toward a vision I diligently pursued. Despite its challenges, the journey has been immensely rewarding.
